A Peek Inside

After last week's post about our one year "houseiversary" and a look back through the building process, many of you wanted a peek inside.  I wasn't sure how I felt about sharing every detail of our house and a full house tour but today I'm ready to share a few of my favorite spots as well as why I love them.

I still get a little homesick sometimes but i now call this house home instead of the "new house."  It only took a year, ha!  This isn't our forever home but it's the perfect place to start and I love the times we've had here already and I already feel we've come so far since this time last year.

We are one end table, two clocks, finishing the wall above our bed and decorating the laundry room away from completely being finished.  We didn't hurry to get decorated and took our time to do it how we wanted and I loved the feeling of not being rushed.  I didn't even whip out my nice camera for this, I just ran around the house with my little old i-phone so the quality isn't the best but here's a peek inside our home…

Welcome!  I forgot to add to our finishing up list that we're adding a storm door so we can add a little extra natural light in from the front but until them I'm really enjoying my recent etsy purchase and having this new wreath on the door.

For our front entryway I have a handful of potted flowers - which you can actually barely see in this photo and I love changing our garden flag for the seasons.

The line of three wedding canvases in our foyer is another favorite - when we got these hung up the house instantly felt homey because this is the first spot I can see when coming down the steps in the morning.

We never (or I should say haven't yet) use the dining room table for just the two of us but it has gotten a lot of use when we have my family over or any number of people that is too big for our kitchen table so lots of great memories have been made in here.

In the background you can see our first canvas as a family of three with miss Stella included.  Real life in this photo as our bottles from Saint Michaels winery are still sitting out on the buffet as well as some Fourth of July candles.

In the family room area we have a little corner that is purely for Stella - she has one of her beds, a blanket and toy box which as soon as we put her toys away - she pulls them right back out.  I love this little spot because she really does lay over in the corner and play - well she lays everywhere but she does use her space.

Our couches are so cozy but I love their elegant style as well.  The "pray big" pillow I picked up on our travels and it adds a homey touch.

Our breakfast nook gets changed out per season and is where we eat most of our meals unless we are out on the deck (most meals at the moment) or in front of the TV (many meals during the deal of winter).

We recently added four barstools at our countertop and they make the kitchen area look so much more complete.  Plus, it's nice to have people sit in the chairs and talk to me while I get the food prepared.

Two of my favorite little touches are I always have a cookbook on display - depending on what season it is and a candle burning next to the sink.  Right now I'm obsessed with the praline pecan cobbler candle from Bath & Body works and even got three extras at the recent sale to stay stocked once summer is over.

Heading to the upstairs, a little touch we added during the building process is a balcony which is off the office.  We use this area mainly for a happy hour cocktail or morning coffee but it's nice to have another outdoor spot to go.

A couple weeks ago I shared a photo of work being done in the office and I got so many questions for a tour.  You can see all the details and a full tour here.  It's one of my favorite spaces, I spend a ton of time in here and it's the only 'girly' place in our house which other than this room is primarily neutrals.  I  had to get some girly touches in somewhere :)

Another favorite part of the office is that I usually have my fluffy friend at my feet just like this while I work.

Our laundry room.  It's a fairly good size so I'm looking forward to getting some decorations in there soon.  There is a door to close it off and I knew I wanted something fun for this room so we went with a teal wall and I just happened to find coral hangers/laundry baskets at Target to accent - I love the brightness as a backdrop while I sort and hang clothes.

Like I said, it's the little things and I had a great time and probably put too much time into decorating our bathrooms.  This is one of four - two of the bathrooms were hard to photograph in one photo so I might do a bathrooms post down the line.

We got this as a gift at our wedding and I love how it has where we met, where I said yes and where we said I do - so creative and it hangs in our hallway which connects our room, the office, laundry room, upper bathroom and upper guest room.

I've always been a bedroom gal - my parents used to joke at home why I'd love laying on my bed watching TV when I could just come downstairs and use one of the bigger TV's but I love the coziness of enjoying your own room.  We splurged and made sure to get a very comfortable mattress and I'm obsessed with our bedding so I love our little space which you can sort of see here in the reflection.

Derek usually wakes up before me and opens the blinds so I enjoy having a few minutes to just lay and take in the view.  We got lucky and during a window treatment appointment found a fabric for curtains similar to our bedding but that would still work later on if we switched it.  Again, had I been using my actual camera, this would have come out WAY more clear - sorry! You can better see the color in the photo above.

These prints are much smaller than the ones I showed earlier in our foyer but still add a nice touch - it's not too bad decorating a whole house at once when you have a ton of wedding photos to pick from.

I needed to get one of these giant monograms in somewhere and the blank open wall about our soaker tub seemed like the perfect place.

Again, real life - I didn't take the time to perfectly organize our shoes (usually every month or so I'll go back and tidy up everything we've just placed here or there the past month) but I couldn't be happier with our closet - you can see full details on it here.  Another "little thing" I probably spent way too much time designing.

Entering the basement we have a different monogram item and a sign from my hometown as well as a cute little personalized rug that we got for an engagement gift so I enjoy having this cute entry way to the bottom level.

I have the "lady office" and Derek has the man cave aka the basement - we recently got these signs for the landing on the stairway on the way down.  When we met in college we always use to jokingly argue over sports because all of our sports teams were rivals - I had to get one plaque in there and luckily based on the color scheme - mine had to go in the middle.

We do our fair share of sports watching in the basement so this hightop table gets a lot of use but the main item in this picture is the photo on the wall - it's from the Penn State white out game in 2013 when we won in four overtimes.  It's also the same weekend Derek and I got engaged :)

I do plan on doing a full post on our wedding gift bar area that we can't live without.  Another personalized sign - I can't get enough.

Derek has no shortage of man cave items and sports hangings to decorate with - think lots of golf and football (he did have to consult his designer so it wasn't too cluttered).  We also have a walkout with a bottom deck and another guest room down there that we like to call the "saloon suite" since it's so close to the bar.  Now that I think of it - I barely took photos down here as well so we might see this area again too.

Last but not least, my favorite area at the moment that you've most likely already seen in other posts here and there - our upper deck.  I have my little garden (not pictured) as well as our floral arrangements, Derek gets in a ton of grilling on the grill back there, we have a little table that fits just the two of use and get in a lot of lounging on the couch area.

I hope you enjoyed the peek inside! Anything you'd like a further peak at or more details on in a future post?  Anything I didn't share?

This most certainly isn't the last home post - now that I've had time to get organized.  I definitely want to share our laundry room once it's finished as well as some inspiration - the little things like this are always my favorite.  I'm also noticing I missed some spots that I could have gone into further detail on.
A "so you're going to build a house" post will probably be coming as well with all the little things I learned through the process.

Linking up with Annie & Nat for Thoughts for Thursday.

  4. Such a beautiful home! Loving the wedding canvases and of course the save water drink champagne art! It took us a while to fill our home with furniture and decor too, and we did it over the course of 3-4 years instead of all at once. And that patio looks like a fabulous place for fun with friends over drinks and s'mores :)

Love all the personalized items in there and it really seems like the perfect place to hang out (as a guy, I'd rather be in your office lol)

  14. Oh my gosh I love your house! We have been in ours now (granted we are renting) for a year now and I have done pretty much NOTHING. I am too afraid to buy stuff because I don't know what our own house in the future will look like but now that I have seen this I have an itch to decorate.
