Red, White & Blue: Fourth of July BBQ

Fourth of July is one of the best days of the year - it's always such a fun holiday and a great weekend to enjoy.  The past few years we've started a tradition of having a family BBQ at home and then spending the rest of the weekend at the lake and this year was no different - we BBQ'd on Friday night and then spent the next two days at the lake (more on our lake weekend later this week).  It was an added bonus that my best friend/maid of honor, Sam came down to visit, enjoy the BBQ and come to the lake with us.  My parents and brother also came over to celebrate and Sam is considered part of the family so it was great family time to enjoy.

The weather was beautiful, we enjoyed being outside on the deck the entire night, cocktails were flowing, the conversation, company and laughs were great.

Thank goodness for red nails (the hubby and I kicked off the weekend with some his and hers pedis and a mani for me) so I was able to sport the full color combo of red, white and blue.  My dress was an impromptu purchase last week and can be found here.

For appetizers we enjoyed feta dipspicy shrimp & dip, bruschetta, caprese skewers, and a delicious cold beer dip {recipe to come}.

For the main course we tried out a new crockpot hamburger recipe and it was a huge hit - definitely one to repeat as well as some sweet and sour sausages.  Our favorite sides of pasta salad, potato salad and broccoli salad were served for sides and some fruit shaped as an American flag to be festive.

We ended the night with some Fourth of July dirt pudding and our traditional cookie dough balls.
