Back to School: Day Planners

I used to love back to school shopping - the pens, pencils, sticky notes… everything! I'd ask my mom to go early and I'd buy extra.  To this day I still end up with plenty of school office supplies that I do not need but just "have to have."

I'm also very guilty of making it from January until late summer and wanting a new and clean planner.  Then come January, I'm wanting something new.  I'm determined to change that this year.
{I'm determined to change that every year, so we will see…}

I've been in a little bit of a sumer funk lately and have been hardly using my day planner which I hate and want to change asap.  It's also quite unlike me - I've just been going off to do lists and one long general summer reminders/to do list.  Usually I take extra time to write special dates, events, plans in by color code.  I'm itching to get a new planner and get back in my groove.

Each year I pick my planner based off the very same list which is listed below.  Clearly I haven't found my absolute favorite or I wouldn't need to make these decisions anymore…

My day planner must haves are easy and simple - a weekly view with the month view to start off each month and somewhat thin papers.  And somewhere for a couples notes.

The look and style of the Emily Ley Simplified Planner (especially with the pineapples) might be my current favorite but I'm not sure if I can wait until September 9th - maybe it will be my "second" for 2016.  I'm leaning towards the teal target planner because I think it's in stock at my store so I don't have to wait for it to ship - I'll be setting out on my search tomorrow because I need to get one in my hands asap - I have more plans than I can keep track of for fall and my different color pens ready to go…

Any recommendations???

  1. I love the Lilly planner, I've had it for three years. This year I actually won a blog giveaway for a planner and it's a bit more grownup but I still love it. I almost bought the Kate Spade one, but read quite a few reviews online that the dots rub off with use. I know whichever one you get will be fabulous, just like you!

  2. I'm obsessed with planners - they're almost like my Bible.
I've tried so many different ones and then last year I decided to create/customize my own. It's not as pretty on the outside, but it's exactly what I need on the inside w/ not a lot of extra stuff to get in the way!

  3. One of my students has the Kate spade one and it's really well made!! I covet it, lol... but I've been REALLY happy with how my day designer has kept me on track this year and how it has held up! I think the hardback works best for me!

  5. I've used a Lilly planner since they came out but this year decided to go with the simplified planner and am so glad that I did as it is much thinner and lighter than the LP one! (I already have more than enough weighing down my bag!) I purchased two of the stretchy bands and a page market to go with it and highly recommend both if you go that route!

  6. Obsessed with all of these especially the polka dots, the stripes, and the pineapples. But I definitely think the floral Lilly one is soooo you <3

  7. Girl I use two planners during the year too! I just switched into a new bando one, but the only thing I'm not liking is that it's not wiro bound so it's tougher to write in the creases...hard to explain lol! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  8. I always have good plans for my planners, but then just get overwhelmed by stuff. I keep a calendar in our kitchen that we keep track of appointments and plans on, which definitely helps. I like that Target planner that you have here!

  9. All cute choices! I ended up ordering an agenda from ban.do. I've been loving it so far!

  10. Planners & I were best friends all throughout school but as soon as I graduated, they pretty much went out the window for me. I tried to use one again last year and used it for all of two minutes. I've been sticking with my google calendar because you can share it with people and because it's so much easier to update/change things when necessary. I definitely miss a good, cute planner though...

  11. I love that target planner! I already bought my planner for the year though, let's hope I can use it for 17 months it's for. I usually make it through most of the year and then fizzle out.

  12. My friends swear by the Lilly planner. I just have a tiny one from Target, but I love it. I can carry it with me at all times and not weigh down my purse even more than it already is. However, I do want to start being even more organized, so I think an upgrade is necessary. Please let me know which you go with! I definitely would love a great recommendation!

  13. I'm the same way! Back to school shopping was what I lived for as a kid, and I still get nostalgic every year for it. I'm itching for a new planner, too - I wasn't overly impressed with my Kate spade planner this year. Have you heard of Plum Paper Planners on Etsy? You can totally customize it yourself.

  14. Love these!!! I love the one with the pineapple cover, so cute!! And I hear you on school supplies, I never use mechanical pencils anymore, but just found the CUTEST ones in the $1 bin at Target and now have been using them at work!! Can't get enough!! They have some of the cutest folders now too that I need next ;) lol.

  15. I have the Lilly planner and I'm OBSESSED! I seriously look at it like 10x a day, it's a little crazy. The pages are big enough to write everything I need to and I just love the way it's laid out

  16. I've used the Erin Condren life planners for a couple of years & am obsessed! They're the closest thing I've found to the perfect planner and are amazing! I like how personalized you can make them. The cover, the custom stickers, etc. Highly recommend you getting one of those! If you decide to go the EC route let me know and I'll send you a link for $10 off!

  17. These are all so pretty! I want one badly, but know I wont use it. I always jot everything down on my phone - reminders, to do lists and my phone calendar. I wish I could be more disciplined and use one! Kids and Cabernet

  18. I took a chance and bought a planner from a company I'd never tried before. I absolutely love it! My bando agenda goes from August of 2015 all the way through December 2016. It's super fun with lots of great artwork and fun ideas. Definitely check them out!

  19. Confessing that I totally have a reminder in my phone for September 9th to get the simplified planner. I love it because it shows hourly and I have yet to find another one that does!

  20. Love your choices! I personally love May Designs planners because they're small so it's easy (and lightweight) to carry in my purse. And the monogram on the front is a plus ;)

  21. I just purchased the Designer Day planner in green and gold and love it! Nice and big, and love that it is bound instead of rings. Highly recommend; and you can't beat the price!

  22. day planners are so cute. Reminds me of my college days writing down dates and assignments. I tend to use my phone these days but these are so much prettier!

  23. I'm obsessed with planners too. Ive had Maybooks for the last few years, but they're just too small and don't hold up the best. I tried Lilly, but didn't love it. I may go back to EC if I can find a good coupon code. I ended up getting one for 1/2 off a few years ago. I'm sure that wont happen again. *New follower.

  24. I am obsessed with pretty planners but...I just can't make myself use them! I think if I had pretty color-coding pens maybe I would? I bought a planner sometime this year and wrote like two weeks of stuff in it and was done. I also hated the layout. I might try again with a better planner, and buying some fun pens!

  26. This post made me so happy!! I absolutely love planners! My vote has to go with the Erin Condren planner though. I've used it for years now and I just can't get enough!

  28. This is so funny you posted this because I just bought a Day Designer last week. I love it because it has the "To-Do" check spots which makes my type A heart flutter. I opted for the smaller one because it still had the same amount of "check spots" for my to-do lists but it's small enough to through in my purse and go which I need for wedding planning :)

  30. I have so many things to say about this. #1 we are totally twins sometimes! #2 I got the big day designer...unfortunately, I didn't love it because I couldn't see the whole week at once. And I don't have enough to fill it. I feel like it would be better for a busy busy mom. Anyway, I recently got the smaller version of the target one (mine has flowers on it) and I'm SO happy with it! Plus, you can't really beat that price! xoxo

  31. I'm loving the Lilly planner- so cute, but that's no surprise! Have you seen the teal planner at Target yet? They are adorable, the only thing that might drive me crazy was I noticed that they didn't lay flat. Just a thought. You'll have to let us know what one you get!

  32. Oh my gosh the gold polka dots. they just get me. Kate Spade are so freaking cute! All those are so cute. I agree with Katie ^ Target planners (Lilly ones) are so dang cute!

  33. I also switch planners half way through the year. This year, because I couldn't make up my mind, I chose the Day designer for Target. I love it! But I may be switching to the Erin Condren as my schedule begins to pile on.

  34. I have a life planner and I like it. There are a few things I wish were different do I may try a different one next time. I actually found one at hobby lobby similar to the life planner (but way cheaper) and you can buy additional things for it that work for you. Plus you can use a 40% off coupon whih makes it around $15.

  35. I love the Emily Ley planner! I've used Erin Condren and I've used a Lilly, and Emily Ley has hands down been my favorite. xo, Champagne&Suburbs

  37. I love my Simplified Planner, but this year I opted for the weekly edition instead of the daily because I like seeing my week at a glance instead of by day. I really wanted the pineapple one, but it was sold out when I went to order :(
