Weekend Whereabouts

It's been a while since I've done a regular old weekend post (and these are the ones I most enjoy looking back on).  This was one filled with lots of catchup, relax and family gatherings, so here we go...

We kicked off the weekend celebrating my brother's birthday!  We did a local Italian restaurant (delicious) and went back to his house for drinks and such afterwards.  I love celebrating birthdays (hello, cake!) and it was a great night full of many laughs.

After some early morning errands including dropping my car off for service, Derek was off for the golf course and I had a long overdue day at home complete with a long Stella walk, a nap and the ever important - closet clean out/switch.  Even though our weather this weekend wasn't quite spring like, I wanted to be prepared so it was out with the heavy sweaters and in with the spring tops and dresses - luckily the weather will be getting warmer later this week.

Stella frequently runs errands with us too - safety first and got her seat belted right in too.
I love to see all the brights come back into the closet - much more my speed than winter items.
{New closet additions: Lilly Pulitzer dress / aqua floral / mint floral - 20% off}
The big yearly clean out of bags to take off to good will - feels great to get rid of and get organized.

We went to a local steakhouse on Saturday night to celebrate St. Patrick's Day and meeting eight years ago.  I ate well more than I should have but those sides are so hard to say no to!

It was so nice to both be home for a weekend and Sunday really reflected that with the usual Sunday routine - church and picking up our palms for Palm Sunday, a visit to Grandmom's, some quick returns at the mall and then picking up some delicious salads for lunch amongst fixer upper episodes. Any weekend with two naps is okay in my book (even if a quick one) and we squeezed in a quick gym session before getting ready to head out again.

Palms from the service.

Last night we met up with some of the family (some was out of town and such) to celebrate what would have been my Grandma's 90th birthday! We lost her this past September and she is still very much missed, loved and thought about each day.  She really was one of my best friends (and best wine drinking partners!) so I enjoyed a sip of her favorite - pinot grigio out of one of her wine glasses.

We got a few snow flurries yesterday - not as much as they predicted but hopefully that's the end of winter and we can enjoy the warmer weather now that it's officially spring!

I hope everyone has a great start to the new week! xx

  8. I really need to work in my closet and get rid of things I no longer wear, too--maybe one day haha! And cookie cake is my absolute favorite so I would have eaten a lot of your brother's birthday cake! Love that you celebrated your grandmother's birthday--so special. My gran passed when I was 13 and I miss her so much. You're so lucky that you got to have yours for a long time!

  13. Sounds like it was a great weekend. Everyone has been cleaning out their closets. I totally need to do that and soon. We did get snow today but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Although, I'm really thought I was done wearing my winter coat. I hope today is the last day for awhile.

  14. Closet clean outs are the best! Well, not the actual going through everything part but the end result is always worth it :) Hope you have a great Monday!

  16. Happy birthday to your brother!

Both you and Biana on top of the game with the giving away clothes. I really do need to get into that, I keep telling myself I will and then I don't. And it just sits for another week but with Easter coming up I have another day to use so I should use that for cleaning and clearing out the closet.

  23. Cookie caaaake! My favorite! Sounds like your weekend was similar to ours - we cleaned out a bunch of stuff (kids' old artwork, in my case), celebrated my grandmother's birthday, and went to Palm Sunday mass as well! I know that you miss your grandmother very much. I'm sure she was right there with you guys the whole time. I hope you enjoy your week!

  25. First of all, happy birthday to your late Grandma! So cute that you honored her with her favorite wine. :) Second of all, give me your brother's birthday cookie cake. YUM! So glad that you had a good weekend at home - I'm jealous that you switched out your closet! I was going to do that, but now we are supposed to have a massive snow storm this week. So, sweaters are still in the cards for me for a bit.

  31. Sounds like a pretty good weekend and your brothers cake looks so yummy. I always eat too much at steakhouses. We are going to one on Thursday for my husbands birthday and I fee like I need to wear some bigger pants. Haha. What a sweet way to celebrate your grandmother!

  32. What a lovely weekend!! Love all your florals! Sounds like a fun time celebrating your brother and your grandma - 90 would've been a big year!

  33. I know how much you miss your grandparents when they pass. I've lost 3 of mine now, and I think of them every day. The one that passed most recently, 3 years ago, was 96 and I still think every now and then of calling him up or needing to ask him something. Crazy how that happens. It's just a testament to a truly strong relationship you had with them! I know we will all see them again some day!
